“Nigerians are suffering daily” — APC Senator emotionally confronts Senate over hardship
A senator of the ruling All Progressives Congress has sparked widespread reactions after emotionally addressing the Senate over the worsening economic and security situation in Nigeria.
Lawmaker raises alarm over insecurity and rising poverty
The lawmaker, identified as Senator Smart, reportedly became emotional while speaking during a Senate session, where he called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and fellow lawmakers to urgently confront the growing hardship facing Nigerians.
According to him, citizens across the country now live in fear due to insecurity, hunger and worsening poverty levels.
“President Tinubu should understand that we, the loyal supporters of the APC, can no longer remain silent. Our security system has collapsed, and every part of this country now lives under fear and uncertainty,” he said.
“If we cannot save this nation, then we should as well shut down the National Assembly. There is hunger everywhere, poverty is increasing, and Nigerians are suffering daily,” the senator added emotionally.
Comments reflect growing concerns nationwide
The remarks have since generated intense discussions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over rising living costs, insecurity and economic hardship.
Since the removal of fuel subsidy in 2023, citizens and opposition figures have repeatedly criticised the economic challenges affecting households and businesses nationwide.
Several lawmakers and governors have also called for stronger measures to tackle inflation, food shortages and violent attacks in different parts of the country.
Many social media users described the senator’s comments as a reflection of public frustration, while others urged the government to introduce more effective relief measures for struggling Nigerians.
